Reading comprehension:

Dad, are you lonely living on your own? Kyushu is so far that you cannot come home often; you told me to write to you every day, but I really cannot. Still, I try to write whenever I can. When our family eats together, everyone always talks about you. Things like whether you are still working at the company at this time, or whether you have got home and are watching this programme.

Tonight too, while we were eating curry and talking about you, Mum said silly things like “with Dad away, getting meals ready is so easy.” Of course Mum was only joking, because she really misses you a lot. Whenever the phone rings, she says: “Oh, maybe it’s Dad” with a really happy face, so I can tell. Mie is happily listening to the CD you brought home as a present last time. When Mie says “Dad loves Mie the most” I get a bit annoyed, but she is still little, so I say nothing. But Dad, remember to bring me a new computer game.

Every morning I get up at 6 and take Don for a walk. I promised you, so even though I am sleepy I make myself do it. Aren’t I good, Dad? At first, because I was not the one who usually walked him, Don seemed not to like it and did not want to come, but lately he seems used to it. The other day I met Mr Maeda, who gave us Don, and when I told him you had been transferred to Kyushu he seemed sorry. Apparently Mr Maeda’s baseball team is short of players again. Remember to exercise, Dad. If you do not exercise you will put on weight, so try to exercise a lot. Well, it is late, so I will stop here. Good night, Dad.
