Reading comprehension:
It is nearly three years since my husband died in a sudden plane crash on a business trip. The cause of the crash is still unknown. My husband died without saying goodbye, and his body was never brought back. “I hate this life of always rushing, never at ease. I do not need the salary or the promotion. If I keep working like this, the stress will kill me. When I retire, I will move back to the countryside and live a life that has nothing to do with clocks or money”. My husband, who worked for 20 years at a trading company, said this many times. More than anything, he hated being driven by time every day.

The keepsake my husband left me is an old-style wristwatch he had used and loved for a long time. Before going on his overseas business trip, he said ” I will buy a new one at the duty-free shop” and left that old wristwatch with me; it is still running.

Since my husband died, I have decided not to wear a watch when I go into town or go out to my part-time job. At first it was a little inconvenient, but once I got used to it, not only was it not inconvenient, on the contrary I even felt more relaxed. Not wearing a watch does not mean living without thinking about time at all. It is not as if there are no clocks around me.

In my bedroom there is an alarm clock, and electronic appliances like the video, the microwave, the rice cooker and the washing machine all have digital clocks. On my way to and from work, I can also see clocks here and there, at the station and on bank buildings, so I can check the time.
