~ ので

1. Meaning: Giving a reason or cause.

2. Structure:
Noun + な / [verb / い-adjective / な-adjective] in the noun-modifying form.

辞書を忘れたので、友達に借りました。
Jisho o wasuretanode, tomodachi ni karimashita.
I forgot my dictionary, so I borrowed one from a friend.

雨にぬれたので、かぜをひいてしまいました。
Ame ni nuretanode, kaze o hīte shimaimashita.
I got caught in the rain, so I have caught a cold.

あしたは日曜日なので、家でゆっくり休もうと思います。
Ashita wa nichiyōbinanode,-ka de yukkuri yasumou to omoimasu.
Tomorrow is Sunday, so I plan to relax at home.

「どうしたのですか。遅かったですね」 「すみません。電車の事故があまりしたので・・・」
`Dō shita nodesu ka. Osokattadesu ne’ `sumimasen. Densha no jiko ga amari shitanode’
What happened? You are very late. – Sorry. There was a small problem with the train.

寒いので、ドアを閉めてくださいませんか。
Samuinode, doa o shimete kudasaimasen ka.
It is very cold, so could you close the door for me?

3. Notes:
– When making a polite request or apology, ので is used more than から。
– Not used at the end of a sentence.
「どうして遅れたのですか」。
Why are you so late?
