Teach yourself to write basic Japanese: KATAKANA

Teach Yourself to Write Basic Japanese – Katakana was written to show students the way and the method of writing the strokes of Japanese characters.

Katakana (kanji: 片仮名, Sino-Vietnamese reading: phiến giả danh; katakana: カタカナ or Hiragana: かたかな) is one part of the traditional Japanese writing system, alongside hiragana and kanji, and is sometimes used to write out the Latin alphabet phonetically. The word “katakana” means “patched-together kana”, because katakana is put together from the many complicated parts of Kanji.

Katakana is made up of straight strokes, curved strokes and angled strokes, just like the strokes of Chinese characters, and is the simplest style in Japanese writing. Because of these strokes, Katakana is also called the “hard script” in Vietnamese.

Katakana has two common orderings: the old iroha order (伊呂波), and the widely used gojūon order (五十音).
Good luck with your studies.
