N の
とおりに、V2

Meaning: as…, exactly as…

Usage: used to say that you do something (V2) exactly as you heard, saw or read it (V1), or as instructed in a book or a set of instructions (N)

Examples:

2. The grammar pattern あとで

V1た
Nの
A number
あとで、V2

Meaning: after…

Usage: used to express the order of actions. The way it combines depends on the word type: (+) with verbs, use the –ta form ; (+) with nouns, add の; (+) with numbers, attach it directly

Examples:

① 新しいのを 買ったあとで、 なくした時計が みつかりました。
After buying a new watch, I found my old one.

② 仕事のあとで、 飲みに 行きませんか。
After we finish work, shall we go for a coffee.

③ 2週 間あとで、国へ 帰ります。
In 2 weeks I will go back to my country

Note:

1. In this pattern, the verb in 「~たあとで」 is always in the ~た form, regardless of when it takes place

☞ あした 勉強したあとで、見物に 行きます。

☞ きのう 勉強したあとで、見物に 行きました。

3. A summary of how 「まえに」、「あとで」、「から」 combine

5. The grammar pattern V1ないで、V2 (CHOOSING ONE OF TWO)

Meaning: doing V2 without doing V1 (choosing one of two actions)

Usage: This pattern is used when the speaker says that an expected action did not take place and was replaced by another one.
