N3 grammar: the difference between ほど, くらい and ころ

These words all indicate degree, like “about, around”, but different structures are used depending on the context.

All three words ほど、くらい and ころ can follow a noun of time. In meaning, all three mean “about / around” and express degree:

ほど [Hodo]: about, as much as, to the extent that

くらい/ぐらい [kurai]: about, around, roughly, to the degree

ころ[ Koro]: around, about (a time). Goes with a specific point or period in time.

But their usage in Japanese grammar differs as follows:

A. ほど、くらい/ぐらい

ほど: about, as much as, to the extent that
くらい, ぐらい: about, around, roughly, to the degree
