61. ～ほど
a. Structure:
[Noun / Verb] noun-modifying form + ほど
b. Meaning 1: about, approximately = くらい

うちから学校まで３０分ほどで行ける。
Uchi kara gakkō made 30-bu hodo de ikeru.
I can walk from home to school in about 30 minutes.

c. Meaning 2: explaining the extent = くらい

夜も眠れないほど悩んだ。
Yoru mo nemurenai hodo nayanda.
I was so upset I could not sleep even at night.

あの家のふたごは親でもまちがえるほどよく似ている。
Ano ie no futa go wa oya demo machigaeru hodo yoku nite iru.
The twins in that family look so alike that even their parents mix them up.

きのうは猫の手も借りたいほどの忙しさだった。
Kinō wa nekonotemokaritai hodo no isogashi-sadatta.
Yesterday I was terribly busy.

きのうは風が強くて、目を開けていられないほどだった。
Kinō wa kaze ga tsuyokute,-me o akete i rarenai hododatta.
Yesterday the wind was so strong I could not open my eyes.

d. Meaning 3: <～ほど。。。はない> nothing is as ~ as

彼女ほど優しい人はいない。
Kanojo hodo yasashī hito wa inai.
There is nobody as kind as her.

これほど面白い本は今まで読んだことがない。
Kore hodo omoshiroi hon wa ima made yonda koto ga nai.
This is the most interesting book I have ever read.
